The dimensions of mobilities: The spatial relationships between corporeal and digital mobilities

2013

Abstract The aim of this article is to study how the corporeal and digital mobilities are spatially organised in relation to each other in everyday life. The dimensions of mobilities are modelled by using survey data (N = 612) collected from Finland in 2011, Multiple Correspondence Analysis (MCA) and Multiple Regression Analysis (MRA). The results show that the combined use of corporeal and digital means of mobility affect the spatial organisation of mobilities only little. The results indicate that young people and students are more likely to benefit from their mobility in networking activities as they are equipped with a larger variety of mobility means than older people and pensioners. Measuring Tourist Satisfaction Through a Dual Approach: The 4Q Methodology

2018

Tourist satisfaction is one of the key factors in determining the success of a tourist destination, since it affects behavioural intentions, such as the willingness to revisit and recommend the destination. Therefore, much research has addressed the measuring of tourist satisfaction, either eliciting positive or negative evaluations of a holiday or destination. The spread between expected positive and negative characteristics can trigger a tourist experience. And the gap between expectations and perceptions will produce a feeling of satisfaction or dissatisfaction (Expectancy-Disconfirmation Paradigm, EDP). Under these conditions, this paper adopts a dual approach, considering tourist satis…

Multivariate statistical analysis for exploring road crash-related factors in the Franche-Comté region of France

2021

Understanding and modelling road crash data is crucial in fulfilling safety goals by helping national authorities to take necessary measures to reduce crash frequency and severity. This work aims at giving a multivariate statistical analysis of road crash data from the French region of Franche-Comte with special attention to road crash gravity. The first step for this multivariate analysis was to perform Multiple Correspondence Analysis in order to assess associations between the road crash injury and several important accident-related factors and circumstances. Log-linear models are used next in order to detect associations between road crash severity and related factors such as al-cohol/d…

Identified Risk Factors Among Truck Drivers Circulating in France

2020

The growth of the European market for road-freight transport has recently led to important changes. Moreover, due to the geographical context of France, truck drivers from different countries circulate on French roads to deliver their goods. Having road safety concerns in mind and based on a literature review, as well as interviews, a French questionnaire has been developed. Aiming at collecting data among truck drivers from different European countries, the questionnaire has been translated into seven languages and has been administered at four highway rest areas in France. The collected data were analyzed by means of multiple correspondence analysis, which pointed out new links between wo…

Visualizing knowledge and attitude factors related to influenza vaccination of physicians

2014

To characterize groups of primary healthcare physicians according to sociodemographic data, years of professional experience and knowledge of and attitudes to influenza, and to evaluate differences between groups with respect to influenza vaccination in the 2011-2012 season. We carried out an anonymous web survey of Spanish primary healthcare physicians in 2012. Information on vaccination, and knowledge of and attitudes to influenza was collected. Multiple correspondence analysis and cluster analysis were used to define groups of physicians. We included 835 physicians and identified three types. Type B were physicians with low professional experience of influenza. Types A and C were physician…

Are there similar or divergent transitions to adulthood in a Mediterranean context? A cross-national comparison of Italy and Spain

2016

The purpose of this study was to examine the differences and similarities between Italy and Spain in regard to emerging adults’ perceptions of identity status, autonomy, attachment, and life satisfaction. The goal was to verify whether a Mediterranean model of transitions from adolescence to adulthood exists. Three hundred and forty undergraduate students (171 Italians and 169 Spanish) ranging in age from 19 to 22 completed measures of identity status, emotional autonomy, attachment style, and life satisfaction. Multiple correspondence analyses provided a graphic synthesis of results. The results indicate that no common model of young adult development exists in Spain and Italy and that Ita…

Demographic and behavioural profiles of patients with common oral mucosal lesions by a homogeneity analysis

2012

Oral Diseases (2012) 18, 396–401 Objective:  The aim of this study is to assess the main oral mucosal lesions (OMLs) within a hospital base and to provide an anamnestic, diagnostic model based on homogeneity analysis of some variables. Methods:  The demographic and behavioural data (i.e. gender, age, smoking status, alcohol consumption and therapeutic drug usage) of 1753 patients with at least one OML were considered. Multiple correspondence analysis (MCA) and multivariate tests of the simultaneous marginal homogeneity hypothesis (SMH) were used to analyse the evidence of any differences between the demographic and behavioural profiles relating to OMLs diagnoses. Statistical significance of…

Socio-Demographic Vulnerability: The Condition of Italian Young People

2009

For a kind of inertia effect, today the Italian welfare state protects the older too much and, on the contrary, it does not counter sufficiently the new risks associated with other phases of life. Not much seems to be implemented in favour of Italian young people who, as a matter of fact, seem to suffer a lot from the present changes: young people remain longer in the parental home and postpone setting up their own independent life to a most advanced age. In order to understand the situation of vulnerability increasingly widespread among young people, it seemed more and more necessary an in-depth analysis of the reasons and the subjective status of the discomfort that affects young people b…
